International School of Bucharest is a not-for-profit private international school registered as a subsidiary of Lumina Educational Institutions (SC Lumina Institutii de Invatamant SA), under Romanian Law.

The Lumina board appoints a Director who is responsible for the direct control and running of the school. General policy is decided by the School’s Senior Management Team. Financial management is carried out by Lumina.


Senior Management Team (SMT)

The Director, the Division Principals, Deputy Principals and Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) Coordinator comprise the SMT. The Director is the head of the SMT and reports to board.

Faruk Erduran
Director, Primary School Principal

Faruk gained his diploma as a physics teacher after studying at Marmara University in Turkey and Beloit College in the United States. He came to Romania in August 2002 and he is thoroughly enjoying his life at ISB, and in Romania. He hopes that he will continue for a much longer time! This is Faruk’s third international experience, having worked in Indonesia and Russian Federation. Outside of work Faruk enjoys playing football, running, hiking and going to different parks with his family.

Sinan Kosak
Secondary School Principal

Born in Erzurum-Turkey, studied Nuclear Energy Engineering in Hacettepe University, Ankara, and then graduated from ODTU, Middle East Technical University-Physics Department. He has been working for Lumina Educational Institutions since moving to Romania in 2000. Has the passion for teaching physics, using ICT in classroom and preparing projects for International Olympiads. He is the co-author of two Physics books for high school students. He enjoys robotics, all kinds of smart gadgets, calligraphy, and football. He is married and has one daughter.

Kerry Harris
Director of Studies

Kerry Harris Director of Studies My role at ISB is to lead and monitor the school curriculum and teaching and learning at ISB from Early years to KS5. To oversee and monitor assessment and tracking of pupil progress. To lead and organise CPD and support teachers in their professional development.


Primary Deputy Principal

Soon after graduation in 2007 from the Middle East Technical University with a Bachelor of Science degree, and also he is continuing MBA.
Mr. Mustafa continued teach science and math in Istanbul. He also worked as a Science teacher trainee for one month in harmony science academy in Texas ın 2005. He joined the ISB in 2010,recently as a KS3 Science teacher.
Mr. Mustafa is very enthusiastic about environmental education, hiking and scuba diving. He has licence to dive under 18 meters     and some camping experience on mountains of Turkey.

Murat Agce
Secondary Deputy Principal

Mr. Murat studied at the “National Academy of Physical Education & Sports – Romania - Bucharest”.Two years after that he moved to Academy of Physical Education & Sports Moldova – Chisinau. Shortly after his graduation 2002 he started his teaching career within a Theoretic--Horizon-High School. Seven years later he moved to Romania -Bucharest, continuing teaching at the International School of Bucharest. He also upgraded his Certification of Qualified Coach in Soccer in Moldova. He likes spending his time with his students at extra-curricular activities and enjoys playing and watching soccer. He is also good at basketball, table tennis, volleyball, skiing, ice-skating, swimming and kick-boxing. He is married and has 3 lovely children.

Ingrid Stanciu
ECA Coordinator

Mrs. Ingrid has graduated from The National Academy of Physical Education Sports - Bucharest where she earned her BSc. degree. Shortly after her graduation she moved to The Middle East starting her teaching career within a British Curriculum school. Four years later she moved to Canada, continuing teaching to all of the Key Stages. She also upgraded her Certification of Qualified Coach in Gymnastics in Toronto, and earned a diploma in Teaching English As a Second Language (TESL) in Toronto. While in Kuwait she was a CEO of The Kuwait Foreign Schools Activities Conference and Head of the PE department at Kuwait English School, where she initiated and successfully implemented the Cambridge IGCSE Program for Physical Education. Mrs. Ingrid joined The ISB team in September 2008 as Head of the PE department. She is a dedicated mother of two boys and in her spare time she likes to watch movies, listen to music and read books and magazines. She also loves to travel, enjoying the beauty of each place. She is a committed teacher who strives to promote, implement and improve awareness, motivation and importance of physical education among, not only students, but colleagues and parents as well.

Vicky Seeshaan
Early Years Deputy Principal
I am originally from England and I have been living and working in Thailand at an international school in the Chonburi area for the last 13 years as an Early Years teacher.  I have taught Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception as well as Year 1.  I completed my NNEB in nursery nursing in 1996 and worked in England in a nursery before moving to Thailand.  I have since gained my Bachelor of Teaching Early Childhood Education in 2009 from the University New England in Australia.  I have 3 children of my own and we are all looking forward to living in Romania.

Karen Willoughby
Deputy Principal - KS1

Karen Willoughby is from Galway, Ireland. She joined the International School of Bucharest in August 2013. She previously taught in countries including the United Kingdom, South Korea, Libya and Jordan. Her qualifications include a PGCE in Primary Education and a Masters in Education. When not working, Karen likes to spend time with her husband and son in the wonderful parks that Bucharest has to offer, socialising with friends and swimming.


James Peall
Deputy Principal - KS2

James Peall has been teaching for fourteen years, with the last ten being spent in Vietnam and Egypt. He graduated from Durham University, England in 1998, with a BA Ed with QTS. He has enjoyed the challenge and rewards of teaching young enthusiastic learners and expects everyone to always try their best to be their best. He enjoys exploring the countryside, parks and sporting activities that Bucharest and Romania have to offer with his family.


David Newsham
Deputy Principal - KS3

David gained his degree and teaching qualification from Glasgow University’s Faculty of Engineering in 1994 and started teaching in Scotland. He has worked in International schools since 1998 having spent time in Indonesia, Peru, Jordan and Thailand before moving to Romania. He is married with 2 lovely daughters who are students here at ISB and they all hope to be in Bucharest for several years.


Stephen Willoughby
Deputy Principal - KS4&5

Stephen qualified in Electronic and Computer Engineering before moving on to complete a PGCE in Mathematics and more recently aMaster’s in Education. His teaching career began in Leeds in the UK and he has gained eight years of extensive international teaching experience working in countries such as South Korea, Libya and more recently in Jordan. He is married to Karen and they have a beautiful three year old son, Darragh. Stephen has a passion for teaching and travelling and all things outdoors which is the reason why he and his family were drawn to the opportunity of moving to Bucharest.


Advisory Council

The functions of the School Advisory Council are to assist in the preparation and evaluation of the school improvement Strategic Plan and assist in preparation in educational improvement proposals.

The council is composed of the Director, teachers, parents and other community members. The director appoints all non-elected members.
