HR FAQS

Q. Where is the International School of Bucharest?

A. ISB is located in the south part of Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. ISB is 10 km from the city centre.

Q. What kind of school is ISB?

A. We are a co-educational school from Nursery through to Year 13. We follow the adapted National Curriculum of England and Wales, Cambridge Primary and Secondary Programme in English, Science and Maths, IGCSE and AS/A Level curriculum (although we are mindful of our setting in Romania) and our school year runs from September through mid-June.

Q. Do you have any requirements regarding qualifications or experience?

A. Teachers must have a recognised teaching qualification, either a UK qualification, such as a B.Ed. or PGCE, or a qualification from your home country that allows you to work in a state school.

UK qualified teachers must have recently taught the UK national curriculum in a UK school for a full academic year. Teachers who qualified outside the UK should have recently taught the UK national curriculum in the UK for at least 2 academic years.

Q. Where do you advertise?

A. We advertise on our website, in the Times Educational Supplement (online) and on eteach.com.

Q. How do I apply?

A. Please complete the ISB Employment Application Form and send this to jobs@isb.ro with a cover letter, up-to-date CV and recent photograph of you. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Please be clear which role you are applying for when you send in your application.

Q. When will I hear back from you?

A. You should get an email response within a few days in receipt of your application. After this we will then only contact successfully short-listed candidates, although we may contact you and ask for references prior to short-listing.

Q. What does the school benefits package cover?

A. The benefits package for teachers, in addition to salary, is as follows:

  • Housing allowance
  • Relocation allowance
  • Annual flight allowance
  • Professional development allowance
  • Private medical insurance
  • Monthly pass for local public transportation
  • 90% discount on tuition fees for the first two children enrolled at ISB, 65% discount from the third onwards.
  • Hot lunch provided by the school cafeteria

Q. What checks are done on applicants?

A. We take safeguarding very seriously and require successful applicants to obtain an enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) or ICPC (International Child Protection Certificate) check, or national equivalent. We will also ask for at least two references, one of which should be your current/most recent Head Teacher.
