Welcome Back to School. Message from the ISB Director

Dear Parents,

We hope that all our families enjoyed the summer holidays and everybody is now ready for a new and exciting school year. ISB is ready to welcome back to school both returning and new students on the 4th September.

We are looking forward to welcoming 100 new students and their families in the school. The new students from Early Years and Primary School are invited to the school for an Induction Morning on Wednesday, 30th August to meet their teachers and see the school prior to the start of school.

Like every year, we continue to be very committed to our mission of providing the students with a broad, balanced education in a safe and supportive environment.

Early Years Foundation Stage children will be using a new playground this year and Primary students will be introduced to a new Maths curriculum resources. After the success of the Chinese Language classes last year, the school continues to provide its students the opportunity to enhance their native language skills by introducing Arabic lessons for Arabic-speaking students. We are happy to announce that we will also be introducing swimming lessons in the PE curriculum in the Primary School. ICT curriculum will be enhanced with Robotics curriculum and new exciting Robotics resources for the students in both Primary and Secondary school.

As you will know, after over 2 years of hard work, the school received authorisation to deliver the IB Diploma programme starting from September this year. This is a highly prestigious widely respected pre-University programme, which we believe will offer great benefits to our students in the future. We will continue to run information sessions throughout next year to ensure all parents in all year groups have the opportunity to learn about this programme. We wish next year’s Year 12 students all the best as they embark on their IB studies.

The iPad programme extends this year to students in Years 7, 8, 10 and 11. The teachers and the students have continued to develop this programme and we have seen a number of successes and some challenges in the pilot which we will be building on for next year. Other year groups are allowed to make use of tablets or laptops in classes (with teacher permission) providing they meet the requirements of our Mobile Devices policy. We strongly encourage year 12 students to have access to a tablet or laptop computer to support their studies in the IB programme.

It is important to celebrate the success enjoyed by many of our IGCSE, AS and A Level students in this year's examinations. A great deal of effort goes into every examination sat and we, as a school community, should recognise their achievements. It is very pleasing to see our IGCSE results continuing to climb with an impressive 38% of all IGCSE grades awarded to our students being A* and A. When looking at a 4-year trend, we continue to compare favourably with similar non selective schools both international and from the UK. Our students take International Examinations as these give them a reliable pathway into prestigious universities around the World.

We are looking forward to another busy, yet beautiful year at ISB and as every year would like to show our appreciation for the constant support of our community.
