Cambridge International Examinations
ISB is an accredited Cambridge International school for the IGCSE and A Level exams since 2000. Every year an increasing number of students prepare and sit these exams in our school.
University of Cambridge International Examinations is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5–19 year olds. The qualifications are taken in over 160 countries and recognised by universities, education providers and employers across the world.

Council of International Schools

Our School is fully accredited by CIS since August 2012. We are proud of their recognition of the quality of our programme.
The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a global non-profit membership organisation that provides services to elementary and secondary schools, higher education institutions and individuals focused on international education that have the following in common:

  • a desire to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens; and

ISB is an accredited Excel Exam Centre for IGCSE and A Level examinations. Edexcel is one of the world’s leading learning company which has an educational heritage rooted in names like Longman, Heinemann and Prentice Hall. Edexcel is the UK’s largest awarding organisation, offering academic and vocational qualifications and testing to schools, colleges, employers and other places of learning in the UK and internationally.

Recongnition by the Romanian Ministry of Education

ISB is authorized by Ministry of Education to operate as a private school following a non-Romanian curriculum.

The Ministry of Education in Romania recognises the Year 10 and Year 11 studies at ISB (which are the equivalent of Grade 9 and Grade 10 in the Romanian Educational System), only if the students passed at least 5 IGCSE exams (3 mandatory subjects - English, Mathematics, Science and 2 optional subjects). Year 12 and Year 13 studies finalised with General Certificate of Education (which are the equivalent of Grade 11 and Grade 12 in the Romanian educational system) are recognised as the equivalent of the Baccalaureate Diploma in Romania for at least 4 Advanced Subsidiary (AS) exams and at least 2 Advanced Level (A2 Level) exams at subjects similar with the ones in the upper classes of high school in the Romanian educational system.

ECDL® (European Computer Driving Licence)

Our school is an accredited ECDL® test centre since January 2015. The relevant certificate can be seen at the bottom of this page.

Lumina Educational Institutions schools provide education for children aged 3 to 18 years old, thus covering all areas of school levels: preschool, primary, middle and high-school.
There are two types of schools opened by Lumina:

Lumina - The University of South-East Europe

The University of South-East Europe is a higher education institute opened by the Lumina group in October 2010.

The campus, located in the 2nd district of the capital, is one of the most modern in Romania. The laboratories have latest generation equipment, used in both teaching and research activities. Course and seminar rooms,  are equipped with projectors, have quality furnishings and are connected to the centralized air conditioning system.  Each study programme uses at least one multimedia classroom equipped with smart board, allowing teachers to make classes more interactive and more appealing to students. The campus has also spaces for extracurricular activities (tennis, billiard, football, basketball, volleyball).


International School of Bucharest is a candidate* school for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that International School of Bucharest believes is important for our students.
